>I first met Adrian Holovaty when he was a sophomore at the University of Missouri. I was doing some recruiting for online talent at a College Media Advisors convention, and despite his shyness, it was obvious that the young man was something different. Something special.
Although we haven’t talked much (miss you, Adrian) since he left his job with WashingtonPost.com a year ago to pursue a $1.1 million grant from the Knight Foundation to build what has resulted in EveryBlock, I’ve had a small hand in Adrian’s career. I put him in touch with Rob Curley when Curley was the new media wizard of the Lawrence (Kan.) Journal-World, and the rest is, well, the rest is all Adrian.
Check out Adrian’s homepage to get a better feel for who he is, what he does, what he believes and what you can learn from him. Adrian was a guest of this class a year ago, but he works as well as lives in Chicago, so it isn’t likely that we’ll see him this time around. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t benefit from what he has to say about journalism today.

AND WHILE YOU’RE AT IT:
Check out “New Media Matter(s): Journalism Education and the Future of News, a little PDF that Laura Ruel and Nora Paul put together in 2001. It contains transcripts from interesting discussions among journalism educators attending the Online News Association meeting that year. You can download a PDF here.
And, have you checked out Rob Curley‘s website? Of course Rob has a website, so you can know his mind!
